Formed in 1936, the Rome Historical Society operates a 3,700 square foot museum with both permanent and rotating exhibits. These exhibits are based on their collection of more than 40,000 items, carefully preserved in 8,400 square foot artifact storage. The William E. Scripture Research Library is home to more than 10,000 archived books, documents, photographs, and paper records to aid curious genealogists, home and business owners, and seasoned historians alike.

Utica Zoo

The Utica Zoo has served the region for over 100 years. The Zoo has grown from its small beginnings with three fallow deer in 1914, to its present collection of 99 species of animals on 40 acres. 

F.X. Matt Brewery

Home of Saranac beers and soft drinks, the family-owned F.X. Matt Brewery is one of the oldest in the country and is right in the heart of Utica’s Brewery District. One of visitors’ most favorite things to do in the city is take the tour of the brewery. They are offered Fridays and Saturdays at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Their 1888 Tavern is now open to the public as well and you can visit Thursday, Friday or Saturday from noon – 8pm.
